Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: It’s always darkest before dawn.

In my experience, the retrogrades of inner planets—namely Mercury, Venus, and Mars—are remarkably tangible. These periods tend to manifest in noticeable ways in my life, prompting me to observe events closely and identify recurring patterns. From October 24th, Mercury will join Venus in Scorpio, and both will be retrograde until November 14th. For the purpose of this article, I will primarily focus on the current Venus retrograde cycle.

Venus began its retrograde motion in Scorpio on October 3rd and will move back into Libra from October 24th through November 14th, when it will resume direct motion. This retrograde period spans approximately six weeks. Venus governs themes of love, beauty, harmony, and finances. In Scorpio, Venus’s influence may take on a more investigative, intense, and transformative character, unearthing what is hidden beneath the surface in Venusian matters.

On a societal level, Venus retrograde in Scorpio generally corresponds with sudden shifts in the stock market, heightened geopolitical tensions, significant archaeological discoveries, or revelations related to ongoing scandals. On a personal level, this transit may revive connections from the past, challenge intimate relationships, or present financial fluctuations. While these possibilities can feel overwhelming, it is important to remember that Venus, like every planet, has a multifaceted nature, bringing opportunities for growth alongside its challenges. Its retrograde periods reflect this duality: though sometimes difficult, they are temporary and often pave the way for renewed clarity and forward progress. Personally, I view these periods as valuable opportunities to release what no longer serves us—a process aptly symbolized by Scorpio’s capacity for transformation.

What does retrograde Venus reveal?

With this in mind, have you observed any Venus retrograde themes emerging in your own life over the past few weeks? To illustrate how this transit can manifest, I will share a personal example. During this six-week period, Venus is retrograding through my 8th House, which pertains to shared resources, transformation, psychological entanglement, and what is hidden or subconscious. Meanwhile, both traditional and modern rulers of Scorpio—Mars and Pluto—are located in my 7th House of partnerships, and Venus, ruler of Libra, is conjunct my IC, symbolizing home, family, and foundational security. As a result, this Venus retrograde is highlighting matters of commitment and resource sharing within the context of partnership and family for me, quite literally reflecting the astrological symbolism. Although these themes may appear complex, I assure you they are not as catastrophic as they might initially seem. Rather, it appears that old narratives are resurfacing for review, providing me with an opportunity to release what no longer supports my growth and to create more positive circumstances moving forward. As Venus transitions into Libra—the sign of peace, balance, and justice—on October 24th, I am curious to see whether the intensity of Scorpio will give way to a more harmonious influence.

How to interpret Venus Retrograde in your own chart

If you would like to understand how this Venus retrograde may influence your personal chart, the following are steps to identify which themes may become prominent for you between October 3rd and November 14th, 2026.

  1. First, generate your natal chart using any reputable free astrological software or app. Be sure to have your birth date, birth time, and place of birth available. If you are unsure which tool to use, I recommend ASTROSEEK, which does not require a subscription or payment.

  2. Within your natal chart, locate the signs of Scorpio and Libra. Pay particular attention to the region spanning approximately 22 degrees of Libra to 8 degrees of Scorpio, as transiting Venus will retrograde through these degrees during the period mentioned above.

  3. Next, identify which astrological house or houses transiting Venus will retrograde in your chart. The relevant houses will indicate the areas of life that Venus is prompting you to examine more deeply. Refer to the list below for brief interpretations of each astrological house, and feel free to use your intuition to further personalize your understanding.

10th House: Your vocation, public contribution, social status, career, and authority figures

12th House: Surrender, connection to the quantum field, foreign lands, and places of solitude and rest (retreats, hospitals, prisons)

  1. Find where your Mars, ruler of Scorpio, and your Venus, ruler of Libra, are in your own chart. Which houses are they positioned in? This indicates the other aspects involved in this Venus retrograde cycle.

Notably, this year Mercury will also enter retrograde in Scorpio from October 24th to November 14th, resuming direct motion on the same day as Venus. During the final week of its retrograde, Mercury will traverse the same degrees that Venus previously covered, suggesting that intellectual or communicative processes could bring resolution and clarity to themes highlighted during the Venus retrograde.

As I have observed, astrological symbolism can manifest in remarkably literal ways. With a blend of astrological technique, curiosity, and intuition, I believe this ancient wisdom can become a valuable resource for personal insight.
