Libra Season: Returning to wholeness through balance
Updated: Sep 28
The Autumn Equinox, occurring on September 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere, marks an important transition in the year. It is one of the two annual equinoxes, the other being the Spring Equinox in March. During the equinox, day and night reach equal length, symbolizing balance and harmony in the natural world. This theme of balance is especially poignant as we reflect on the extremes we have witnessed and lived through as a society so far this year.
As we enter Libra season on September 24th, we experience a subtle shift in energy. The night force increases day by day, signaling a transition into a more introspective time of year that encourages us to move away from the outward expressions of creativity that defined the first half of the year. As we turn our focus inward, Libra's energy inspires us to seek balance and harmony in our lives, internally and externally. The symbol of the scales reminds us of the importance of fairness, reciprocity, and maintaining equilibrium in how we relate to others and, perhaps more importantly, with ourselves.

This essence resonates deeply with the ancient Egyptian Goddess Ma’at, who governs the Afterlife and is revered for maintaining divine equilibrium. She is often depicted wearing an ostrich feather on her head, symbolizing truth, which is used to weigh against the heart of the departed. If the heart is perfectly balanced with her feather, the soul is granted entry into the Afterlife. If the scale tips even slightly towards the heart, the soul must reincarnate to release its excess weight. This metaphor is not about defining good from bad or right from wrong; rather, it calls us to recognize and address what is out of balance in our lives.
The scales of Libra prompt us to reflect on key questions:
Where do I feel emotionally burdened?
What have I held on to for too long?
Where have I over-extended myself?
How have I pushed myself too far?
What have I neglected?
The Libran dilemma: Honoring the "self"
The themes associated with Libra often emphasize relationships with others, but the journey of self-awareness truly begins within. This can pose a challenge for the Libran archetype, as its peace-seeking, people-pleasing nature tends to prioritize external harmony over one’s needs. The core lesson for the Libran archetype lies in integrating the qualities of its opposite archetype, Aries, which is independent, assertive, and self-oriented. It reminds us that true balance involves honoring our own needs and embracing our unique self-expression, which requires the courage of stepping into Aries’ natural orientation of “I am”.
Mercury & Venus Retrograde (October – November, 2026)
During this period, both Mercury and Venus will be retrograde—Mercury from October 24th to November 13th, and Venus from October 3rd to November 14th. During the second week of October, specifically on October 6, 7, and 8, retrograde Venus and Mercury (still direct) will conjunct, meaning that they will meet together for a conversation. This presents a unique chance to quiet our minds and tune into our intuition. Venus, especially through its association with Libra, reminds us that we always have access to our heart space, where we find love: our true nature, always in balance. Take a moment to reflect: what helps you relax into your heart space? Perhaps it’s tending your garden in the morning, playful moments with your beloved pets, or painting a beautiful landscape. Maybe you find inner peace in a session with a reiki healer or simply sitting in meditation.
With two planets in retrograde, this Libra season is a wonderful invitation to integrate practices that nurture heart-mind coherence, guiding you back to a sense of wholeness.
I hope this helps you ease into the grace of Libra season.
